Loco, Al Tuna join attempt to break Guinness World Record

Over 100 mascots met in Philadelphia this weekend to set world record & raise funds for childhood cancer research
February 22, 2016

CURVE, Pa. - Altoona Curve mascots Loco and Al Tuna took part in the Mascots For a Cure attempt at setting a world record in Philadelphia, Pa. on Sunday.

The non-profit organization Mascots for a Cure organized the event, which unofficially set the Guinness World Record for the number of mascots dancing at one time, with 138 of them dancing to "The Electric Slide" for nearly five minutes at The Palestra on the University of Pennsylvania's campus. The new record beat the previous mark, set in Japan in January of 2013, by four.

Mascots from professional sports teams, businesses and other organizations met in Philadelphia to help raise awareness for childhood diseases. Mascots for a Cure raises funds for the prevention and elimination of childhood cancer and other childhood diseases.

The record will be reviewed by Guinness World Records, and an official announcement should be made within the coming months.

The Curve open the 2016 season at 6 p.m. on Thursday, April 7 at Peoples Natural Gas Field against the Harrisburg Senators. Season tickets, Mini Plans and Flex Books presented by DelGrosso's Amusement Park are all on sale now.
