Tides fall despite Despaigne's solid outing

Norfolk blanked in road trip opener
April 29, 2016

Odrisamer Despaigne allowed one run over six strong innings, but Norfolk dropped a 3-0 decision Friday night at Indianapolis.

Despaigne (0-4) yielded just four hits in his outing, striking out five while walking one. The lone run he surrendered came in the first frame, when Adam Frazier tripled to lead off the game and scored on a sacrifice fly by Jung Ho Kang.

Friday continued a string of bad luck for Despaigne, as the Tides were shutout for the third time in one of his starts. Norfolk has yet to plate a run while Despaigne has been in the game in any of his five starts this season, a span of 25.0 innings.

Ryan Flaherty and Audry Perez both had two singles to lead Norfolk's offense, while Dariel Alvarez added a double. Flaherty has now hit .500 (7-14) over his first three games after joining the Tides from Baltimore.

The two clubs continue their series Saturday night from Victory Field, with first pitch slated for 7:05. Nick Additon gets the start for the Tides, with airtime on ESPN Radio set for 6:50 pm.
