Tides homer four times to rally past Durham

Sharlon Schoop homered twice to rally Norfolk from a 7-1 deficit as the Tides charged past the Durham Bulls 9-7 in ten innings Friday night. 

Durham plated seven runs in the sixth inning to take a 7-1 lead, but Schoop ignited Norfolk's comeback with a two-run homer in the seventh to pull the Tides within 7-3. One inning later, Christian Walker hit a two-run homer and Trey Mancini followed with a solo blast - his first at the Triple-A level - as Norfolk narrowed the deficit to 7-6. 

Schoop knotted the score in the ninth, as he connected on a solo homer off of Tyler Sturdevant. It was Schoop's first two-homer game as a professional. 

The Tides capped the win with two runs in the tenth, as Audry Perez singled home a run before Schoop doubled in a run of his own - giving him four RBI in a contest for the first time since a six-RBI game during the 2010 season. Perez finished with three hits in the contest to up his average to .390 this season. 

Zach Phillips (2-1) earned the win in relief, while Pedro Beato earned the save with a scoreless inning of work. Beato now owns a 0.68 ERA this season. 

The victory was Norfolk's fifth this season when trailing after seven innings. 

The Tides and Bulls continue their three-game set on Saturday from the DBAP, with first pitch slated for 5:05. Joe Gunkel gets the start for Norfolk, with airtime on ESPN Radio set for 4:50 pm.
