Walks and Errors Too Much For Scrappers

June 27, 2016

(Niles, OH)-The Mahoning Valley Scrappers entered Monday night looking for their first series win of the season. A season high four errors and a season high 10 walks would be too much for the Scrappers offense to overcome as the Batavia Muckdogs would take the series with a 11-5 win.

Batavia jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning. The Muckdogs would take advantage of two walks and two errors. Kris Goodman would get the only RBI of the inning on a fielder's choice.

The Scrappers would cut the deficit to two runs in the bottom of the second inning. Emmanuel Tapia singled to start the inning. With two outs he would come around to score on a Grofi Cruz RBI single.

In the top of the fourth inning Batavia would add two more. Once again they would benefit from a walk and an error. Corey Bird would get credited with the only RBI of the inning with a base hit.

Batavia would put the game out of reach with six runs over the final three innings of the game. Over those three innings they would walk five times and take advantage of another error to push the score out to 11-2.

Mahoning Valley would plate three runs in the bottom of the ninth. Gabriel Mejia would drive in a run with an RBI single while Alexis Pantoja would get an RBI on a sacrifice fly.

Micah Miniard (0-1) took the loss after starting and going 3.1 innings. He allowed five runs, just one earned, on four hits. Miniard walked four and struck out one.

The Scrappers (2-9) now welcome the Auburn Doubledays (7-4) to Eastwood Field for the first time this season to start a three game series. The Scrappers will send Triston McKenzie (0-1) to the mound. First pitch is set for 7:05pm. Tuesday night is College Fair night presented by Kent State-Trumbull Campus. Call the Scrappers box office at 330-505-0000 to get your tickets.
