Four-Run First Boosts Dodgers to 4-3 Win

Oklahoma City - A four-run first inning provided all of the offense the Oklahoma City Dodgers needed in a 4-3 win against the New Orleans Zephyrs Saturday at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark.

The victory gave the Dodgers a fourth straight win overall and a fifth straight home win as the team improved to 57-42 on the season in front of a crowd of 8,806.

The Zephyrs scored the game's first run before the Dodgers went on to take a 2-0 lead in the four-game series between the teams.

Dee Gordon, who is on a Major League rehab assignment with the Zephyrs, led off the game with a double, advanced to third base on a single by Robert Andino and scored on a wild pitch by Jharel Cotton for a 1-0 Zephyrs lead in the first inning.

The Dodgers opened the bottom of the first inning with four straight hits.

Micah Johnson and Drew Maggi led off the bottom of the first inning with back-to-back doubles to bring home the first run of the night for the Dodgers. Will Venable followed with a RBI single to right field to push the Dodgers in front, 2-1.

Rob Segedin stepped up to the plate next and hit a two-run homer into the Dodgers bullpen in left-center field for a 4-1 Dodgers lead. The home run was Segedin's team-leading 18th homer of the season.

Isaac Galloway homered onto the Budweiser Deck in left field to cut OKC's lead to 4-2 in the top of the fourth inning.

Xavier Scruggs' home run to left field in the fifth inning also landed on the Budweiser Deck and cut the Dodgers' advantage to 4-3.

The Zephyrs (46-52) were then held scoreless over the final four innings, preserving the Dodgers' lead.

Dodgers starting pitcher Cotton (8-5) earned his team-leading eighth win of the season. He allowed three runs and seven hits with one walk and seven strikeouts. He tied his season high with seven innings.

Relievers Logan Bawcom and Randy Choate pitched 1.1 scoreless frames before Jacob Rhame entered the game to pitch with one out in the ninth inning. Rhame retired the two batters he faced to earn his sixth save of the season.

New Orleans starting pitcher Dylan Axelrod (6-5) was charged with the loss, allowing four runs and seven hits with one walk and two strikeouts over 2.0 innings. Greg Nappo followed with four scoreless frames and nine strikeouts and Chris Reed pitched two scoreless innings.

The Zephyrs pitching staff racked up 13 strikeouts and held the Dodgers scoreless over the final seven frames.

Five Dodgers finished the night with two hits, as Oklahoma City outhit New Orleans, 11-8.

The Dodgers have won five consecutive home games for the first time this season and first time since winning seven games in a row in Oklahoma City July 17 - Aug. 3, 2015.

The Dodgers continue their home series against the New Orleans Zephyrs at 6:05 p.m. Sunday at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark. Tomorrow is a Chaparral Energy Family Sunday filled with family fun activities such as pregame player autographs, face painting and kids can run the bases after the game.
