Bulls Fall In 'Cuse, 5-1
Bulls starting pitcher Matt Torra (L, 2-4) worked seven innings in the defeat, permitting a solo homer in the second and seventh, and a tie-breaking three-run shot to Xavier Paul in the fourth. Torra allowed five runs on six hits, fanning three in the outing.
Durham (12-23) took a 1-0 lead in the third against starter Yunesky Maya (W, 2-4) as Shawn O'Malley scored from second base on an error by second baseman Seth Bynum. Maya would work through seven complete, walking one and yielding seven hits.
The Bulls' best chance came in the eighth against reliever Pat Lehman, filling the bases on a walk, Cole Figueroa single and an error, but Lehman fanned Leslie Anderson and Stephen Vogt, then retired Reid Brignac on a grounder to third.
Anderson went 3-4 for the Bulls, raising his average to .352. Kyle Hudson's eight-game hitting streak was snapped, going 0-2 with a walk and sacrifice.
The Bulls continue their eight-game road trip on Friday night against Scranton/Wilkes-Barre at Frontier Field in Rochester, NY at 7:05 PM ET. Lance Pendleton (1-1, 4.38) will oppose the Yankees Ramon Ortiz (0-3, 4.18).
