Cards Blank 'Hounds 5-0

July 4, 2012
Springfield, MO - The Springfield Cardinals broke up a potential pitcher's duel to shut out the Midland RockHounds in their series finale, 5-0.

The Cardinals finally got on the scoreboard with a five-run bottom of the seventh. After a Leonard Gil error, a hit batter, and consecutive base hits from Chris Swauger and Jake Shaffer, Springfield scored the first run of the game. Greg Garcia would follow up with two-run double down the right field line off reliever Jose Guzman. RBI singles from Kolten Wong and Jermaine Curtis pushed the lead to 5-0.

Springfield starter Seth Manness (4-1) got the win, throwing seven innings of scoreless baseball. He gave up only two hits, and struck out five while walking one. After allowing a base hit to lead off the game, Manness would not give up another hit until Tyler Ladendorf's double with two outs in the sixth inning.

RockHounds starter Gary Daley (7-7) earned the loss, pitching six innings with threes across the board- three hits, three earned runs, three strikeouts and three walks. He would only allow one hit and no runs until the seventh inning.

The RockHounds would not get a runner past second base as Michael Blazek would throw two scoreless innings in relief to close out the game for the Cardinals. He would strike out one batter while giving up two hits.

Springfield will hit the road for a six-game trip down to Texas starting with a three-game series in Frisco tomorrow night at 7:00pm. Scott McGregor will start for Springfield against Nick Tepesch of Frisco.
