2014 Bandits Race to Home 5K
One of the first highlights of the Quad Cities River Bandits' 2013 season at Modern Woodmen Park was the first-ever Bandits Race to Home 5K presented by Palmer Chiropractic Clinics that included more than 300 runners and walkers and raised more than $5,000 toward the Bandit Scholars Program. On Tuesday, the River Bandits announced the opening of registration for the second annual race, set for 8 a.m. Saturday, April 12, 2014.
Early race registration is available at www.riverbandits.com/5K through Dec. 31 and costs $20. The registration fee includes a T-shirt and a ticket to a 2014 River Bandits game. All participants who register early will also be entered into a drawing for a free suite rental for 16 people at an April or May 2014 Monday through Thursday home game. All proceeds benefit the Bandit Scholars Program.
"With outstanding participation last spring, the people of the Quad Cities made the first Bandits Race to Home 5K the perfect start to another River Bandits season and a fantastic event to benefit the Bandit Scholars Program," said team owner Dave Heller. "For the same affordable price in the 2014 race, the Quad Cities community will again receive a unique race experience and a free River Bandits game while supporting the Bandit Scholars Program that helps Quad Cities area students pay for college."
The race will have the same two-state route as the 2013 event. Participants will again begin near the ballpark near the corner of West 2nd Street and Western Avenue in downtown Davenport, Iowa, cross the Centennial Bridge to Rock Island, Ill., head over to the Rock Island Arsenal, then back across the Arsenal Bridge before finishing at home plate inside Modern Woodmen Park.
A Fun Run for children 12 years and younger, with River Bandits mascot Rascal, will also take place later in the morning April 12. Contestants will race Rascal from outside the left field wall of the stadium and finish just inside the gate of Modern Woodmen Park. Each contestant will receive a Fun Run ribbon. Early registration for the Fun Run costs $12, or $15 with a T-shirt.

Individual prizes will be awarded to the top three male and female finishers, as well as to the top three males and females in each age group, each of the 13 age groups - 19 & under, 20-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69, 70-74 and 75-plus. One lucky contestant will also have the opportunity to participate in the River Bandits' "Race the Game" promotion in April 2014.

"The River Bandits cannot wait for another memorable event next spring."
All proceeds benefit the Bandit Scholars Program, which annually awards the Keith Lucier Memorial Scholarship and the Bandit Scholarship. Each scholarship pays the entire first-year college tuition for two Quad Cities-area students.
