Anderson Twirls Gem in Akron Win

July 12, 2014

(Trenton, NJ) July 12, 2014 - Cody Anderson pitched six shutout innings and Anthony Gallas homered as the Akron RubberDucks defeated the Trenton Thunder, 5-1, on Saturday night at Arm and Hammer Park.

The RubberDucks (55-40) won for the fourth consecutive game, and sixth time in the last seven games. They have won five of six games on the current road trip, and, thanks to Bowie's 2-0 win over Richmond, have moved back into a tie for first place in the EL West.

Anderson (4-8) won his second straight start by shutting down the Thunder (43-52) for the first six innings. He scattered four hits, walked one and struck out four. In his final inning, he recorded back-to-back strikeouts to strand two runners on base. Anderson, Cleveland's minor league "Pitcher of the Year" last season, went more than two months without a win prior to his two recent successful starts.

Gallas launched a three-run homer in the first inning against Trenton lefty Dan Camarena (0-2). Adam Abraham and Bryan LaHair both reached on two-out singles before Gallas launched his sixth home run of the season. The RubberDucks have taken first-inning leads in both games of the series.

Akron extended the lead to 5-0 in the fourth on an RBI grounder by Jordan Smith and a run-scoring double by Justin Toole.

Anderson gave way to Elvis Araujo who gave up a run in the seventh. Adam Miller worked the final two innings, yielding just one hit.

The RubberDucks and Thunder will play game three of the series on Sunday afternoon at 1:05. RHP Duke von Schamann (3-4, 4.44) is scheduled to start for Akron, while the Thunder have tabbed RHP Jaron Long (1-0, 4.76). The game will be broadcast on WARF 1350 AM and www.AkronRubberDucks.com.

The Akron RubberDucks are the Double-A affiliate of the Cleveland Indians. The 2014 season is the 18th since moving to Canal Park and the first as the RubberDucks.
