(Scotiabank Field at Nat Bailey Stadium - Vancouver, B.C.) - Every team has the odd 'clunker', and for the Canadians it just happened to fall on a Thursday afternoon in the middle of a pennant race as the Tri-City Dust Devils shutout Vancouver 6-0 to open the door for the rest of the North Division to make up ground on the surging C's.
Perhaps no one felt more snake-bitten than Canadians catcher Yorman Rodriguez who hit into three double plays over the course of the lopsided loss while Vancouver managed just four hits on the afternoon. Tri-City starter LHP Omar Cruz allowed just one hit over his four innings of work and walked four - with the Canadians unable to hit the ball beyond the infield proving the 19-year old's dominance in just his 5th start in the Northwest League. RHP Spencer Kulman (2.0IP) and RHP Nick Kuzia (3.0IP) sealed off the shutout victory over Vancouver who fell to 13-8 (.619) on the second half through 21 of 38 second half games.
LHP Nick Allgeyer(0-1) was the hard luck loser allowing just one run in the top of the 1st inning, a solo home run to 2B Tucupita Marcano which ended up being the Dust Devils winning run. RHP Juan Nunez went five innings allowing eight hits and four runs before RHP Fitz Stadler calmed the game down with two shutout frames including four strikeouts.
Vancouver dropped two of the three meetings to Tri-City falling to 7-3 (.700) in their past ten, 1 1/2 games up on Spokane who hosted Everett out at Avista Stadium starting at 6:30pm.
Vancouver welcomes Spokane to Scotiabank Field starting Friday, August 17th for a crucial North Division match-up that will either push the Canadians deeper into the driver's seat or set up a two-week sprint to the finish line with Spokane running side-by-side with the C's.
All three games for this weekend are SOLD OUT but can be heard in their entirety at www.canadiansbaseball.com
