Hunter Hargrove hit a two-run home run with two outs in the top of the eighth inning to propel the Beloit Snappers to a 4-1 win over the Quad Cities River Bandits on Friday night at Modern Woodmen Park.
Beloit broke through first, scoring a run in the fourth inning to take the lead. With one out, Austin Beck singled into left field. The outfielder was able to advance all the way to third on an errant pickoff attempt from pitcher Jairo Solis. Jack Meggs took advantage by lining a two-out RBI single into center field to put Beloit on top 1-0.
The Bandits pulled even in the seventh inning, but missed out on a chance to do more damage. Adrian Tovalin began the inning by drawing a walk and went to second base on a single from Logan Mattix with one out. David Hensley followed with a base hit of his own to right field, but Mattix rounded second base too far and was caught in a rundown. Tovalin broke from third and was tagged out in a rundown of his own for the second out of the inning, with Mattix going to third and Hensley advancing to second. Mattix scored moments later on a wild pitch to tie the score 1-1.

With two outs in the eighth inning, Yohan Ramirez walked Austin Beck. That brought Hargrove to the plate for his crucial at bat. He drove a pitch the opposite way over the Miller Lite Party Deck in right field for his fifth home run of the season. The long ball made the score 3-1. The Snappers added an insurance run on Nick Allen's RBI single in the top of the ninth to grab their final margin of 4-1.
Solis, the Bandits starter, went 5.0 innings and allowed one run on four hits to go with four strikeouts. Ramirez followed by allowing two runs on one hit with a walk and three strikeouts. He was the losing pitcher. Dariel Aquino surrendered one run on a walk and three hits in the ninth.
The Bandits were limited to just four hits in the contest. Scott Schreiber provided the only extra-base hit with a double in the fifth inning. The hit was also the first of his professional career. Meggs and Allen each had two hits for the Snappers.
The River Bandits (0-2, 40-32) and Snappers (2-0, 34-37) continue their four-game series with game three on Saturday night at 6:35 p.m. The first 2,000 fans in attendance will receive a Carlos Correa bobblehead.
