Scott Heineman hit a pair of home runs, lifting the Round Rock Express to a 3-2 win over the New Orleans Baby Cakes on Sunday night.
Heineman tagged Baby Cakes starter Zac Gallen for a solo shot with one out in the opening frame, then led off the fourth with another home run, his 10th and 11th of the season, to put the Express ahead, 2-0.
Back-to-back singles by Cliff Pennington and Tony Sanchez to open the fifth inning led to Round Rock's third run, which eventually scored on a passed ball.
New Orleans was held in check by Chris Rowley, who faced two batters over the minimum through five scoreless innings before the 'Cakes broke through in the sixth. A leadoff walk to Jon Rodriguez was followed by Lewis Brinson's triple, though the Baby Cakes were unable to capitalize on the runner at third with no outs as Rowley escaped further damage.
J.B. Shuck greeted reliever Conner Sadzeck with a leadoff single in the seventh, then stole second base, and scored after a wild pitch and a single by Cristhian Adames. Again, however, the Baby Cakes had a potential larger rally thwarted when Sadzeck fanned two with Adames in scoring position.
The 'Cakes also had a runner at second with no outs in the eighth and failed to score, and put runners at second and third with no outs in the ninth before Reed Garrett induced a foul out and notched a pair of strikeouts to end the contest.
New Orleans finished 1-for-15 with runners in scoring position.
Rowley (2-3) limited the Baby Cakes to one run and three hits in six innings and earned the win, while Garrett picked up his fifth save.
Gallen (8-8) scattered six hits and three runs - two earned - over six innings to take the loss.
The Baby Cakes look for a franchise-record sixth consecutive series victory in Monday's finale of the four-game set, the last road game of the season, scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
