Hood helps Baby Cakes snap home slide

Destin Hood homered and doubled to back six strong innings from Stephen Fife, as the New Orleans Baby Cakes salvaged the series finale from the Salt Lake Bees, 4-2 on Thursday night.
Hood drilled a two-run homer in the first inning to give the 'Cakes and early lead, then doubled to lead off the fourth and scored on a tiebreaking single by Moises Sierra.
Hood has hit all seven of his home runs and collected 21 of his team-leading 24 RBI at home, where he is batting .333 in 20 games.
Fife (2-2) worked six innings for the third consecutive start, struck out five without issuing a walk and limited the Bees to just two unearned runs. Salt Lake scored both of its runs in the third when a potential inning-ending grounder by Shane Robinson with runners at first and second scooted past shortstop Peter Mooney for an error, and both runners ultimately scored on the play after Robinson was caught in a rundown between first and second base.
Mooney lobbied for baserunner interference on the play, and 'Cakes manager Arnie Beyeler was ejected for arguing the call.
New Orleans nursed its 3-2 advantage into the eighth, when Tomás Telis took Bees reliever Brooks Pounders the opposite way for his second home run of the year.
The solo shot provided insurance for Drew Steckenrider, who recorded the final five outs of the game to nail down his second save.
The win snapped the Baby Cakes' five-game losing skid at the Shrine and averted only the second series sweep at the hands of Salt Lake in the 20-year history between the clubs.
Vicente Campos (0-2) was charged with three runs on five hits in four innings to take the loss.
The Baby Cakes continue their homestand on Friday at 7 p.m. with the opener of a four-game set against the Las Vegas 51s.
