Indians Kick Off Annual Reading Challenge

SPOKANE, Wash. - The Spokane Indians are excited to announce the return of the Spokane Indians Reading Challenge presented by Molina Healthcare. The reading challenge will encourage and empower local students to learn through reading. The challenge started this week at Sheridan Elementary School.

"The Spokane Indians are always working on new ways to give to the community," said Indians Senior Vice President Otto Klein. "With the help of Molina Healthcare, we've been able to keep the Reading Challenge thriving for the 6th consecutive year."
Students at Sheridan Elementary will be given a reading log to keep track of their progress. Each student can earn a new prize as they read and make their way around the bases:

• 180 Minutes (1st Base): An autographed OTTO or Doris baseball card
• 360 Minutes (2nd Base): A special edition Spokane Indians bookmark
• 540 Minutes (3rd Base): A free book courtesy of Molina Healthcare
• 720 Minutes (Home Run!): Two tickets to a Spokane Indians game

The challenge will run for six weeks, ending on Friday, May 31st. If each student reads just 25 minutes for five days a week, they will hit a home run! The classroom with the most minutes read will win a pizza party with OTTO the Mascot!
