PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. (August 15, 2018) - The long ball and solid pitching earned the St. Lucie Mets a 6-2 victory against the Florida Fire Frogs on Wednesday at First Data Field.
Dale Burdick hit the go-ahead three run home run in the fourth inning, Desmond Lindsay cranked out another homer in the eighth and Gabriel Llanes pitched his fifth quality start in his last six outings.
David Wright and Jay Bruce also continued their rehab assignments with St. Lucie. Wright played seven innings at third base. He went 0 for 3 with a walk. Bruce played seven innings at first base after playing five innings in right field the previous day. Bruce went 2 for 4 with a pair of singles and a run scored.
Llanes overcame a bumpy two-run second inning and was helped out when right fielder Gene Cone reached over the wall to catch a would-be homer from Garrison Schwartz.
Llanes ended up pitching seven innings and allowing two runs while scattering six hits. He retired the last nine he faced.
Llanes picked up his fifth win in his last six starts.
Burdick launched a towering three-run shot off of Florida starter Jeremy Walker in the fourth inning to turn a 2-1 deficit into a 4-2 lead.
Bruce scored from second base on a single by Lindsay in the fifth inning to put the Mets up 5-2.
Lindsay's first home run at First Data Field made it 6-2 in the eighth.
Seth Davis pitched two scoreless and hitless innings to close out the ballgame for his second save.
The Mets (22-29, 49-69) and Fire Frogs (17-32, 46-69) conclude their series at First Data Field on Thursday. First pitch for Dollar Night is set for 6:30 p.m.
