Strong nights at the plate by Michael Gettys and Josh Naylor propelled San Antonio to a 4-0 series-sweeping win over Corpus Christi Tuesday night at Wolff Stadium.
The Missions entered Tuesday's series finale looking for its second straight series sweep. Gettys would get San Antonio off to a great start in the second when he drove in the game's first run with a solo homer to left off right-hander Yoanys Quiala (2-3).
It was the fifth dinger of the season for Gettys, who led off the club's next rally in the fifth with a double to left center. Gettys would later come in to score along with Fernando Tatis Jr. on a clutch, two-out double to left by Naylor that pushed the San Antonio lead to 3-0.
Naylor capped scoring in the seventh against righty Corbin Martin when he drove in Rod Boykin from third with a single to left center.
The Missions also pitched exceptionally well Tuesday as Miguel Diaz and four relievers combined on a three-hit shutout. Jason Jester (1-0) earned the win with an inning and a third of one-hit ball.
After an off day, San Antonio (22-10) begins a four-game series against Frisco (7-25) Thursday on Metro PCS Dollar Night presented by News 4 San Antonio and Cox Media Group. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 PM. Lefty Logan Allen (4-1, 2.78) will get the ball for the Missions in Thursday's opener, while the RoughRiders counter with right-hander Pedro Payano (1-2, 6.33).
