September Mourn - The Pawtucket Red Sox put the finishing touches on their 2018 season when they host the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders (AAA-Yankees) this afternoon at 1:35 pm at McCoy Stadium in a game that no longer has playoff ramifications. Last night's 3-2 Scranton/WB win clinched the IL wild card for the RailRiders and they will host Lehigh Valley in a playoff semi-final beginning this Wednesday in Moosic, PA. This will be the third year in a row the two Pennsylvania teams will meet in the first round of the playoffs…Scranton/WB beat Lehigh Valley, 3 games to 0 in 2016 en route to winning the Governors' Cup and last year the RailRiders knocked off the IronPigs, 3 games to 1 before losing to Durham in the Governors' Cup Finals. Games 1 & 2 of this year's series will be at Scranton/WB on Wednesday & Thursday while the the final three games (as necessary) in the best of five series will be played at Lehigh Valley Friday, Saturday and Sunday. In the other playoff series, it will be South champ and defending Governors' Cup Champion Durham at West champ Toledo beginning Wednesday night.  
We Will Miss You - Today marks the end to the 46^th season for the Pawtucket Red Sox as the Triple-A affiliate of the Boston Red Sox (began in 1973) and by the end of the afternoon the curtain will drop on the 77^th year of McCoy Stadium (opened in 1942).   After today, McCoy will go dark baseball-wise (we can't forget about the Food Truck & Craft Beer Festival here on September 15 and the Macklemore Concert on September 29) for the next 219 days until the PawSox host Syracuse for their 2019 home-opener on Thursday, April 11 at McCoy. The tentative 2019 IL schedule has the PawSox beginning their 2019 season on April 4 in Syracuse and after that 7-game roadtrip (April 4-10 with four games in Syracuse and three games in Buffalo), the Sox would open a 7-game homestand from April 11-17 featuring a 3-game series vs. the Chiefs and then a 3-game set vs. the Bisons. In a scheduling oddity, the first 17 Pawtucket games next season will come vs. either Syracuse or Buffalo.
