Visalia, CA – Rancho Cucamonga’s offense was unable to overcome a season-high 12 walks issued by the pitching staff, as the Visalia Rawhide posted a 7-5 win on Sunday afternoon at Valley Strong Ballpark.

The Rawhide, despite just four hits on the day, capitalized on 12 walks, helping them to split the six-game series with the Quakes.

Visalia got out to a six-run advantage, getting to Quakes’ reliever Darlin Pinales (0-1), thanks in part to a three-run homer in the second inning by Sergio Gutierrez.

Down 6-0, the Quakes put together a solid rally, tallying three in the fifth and two more in the seventh to make it a one-run game at 6-5.

The Rawhide got a crucial insurance run in the eighth off Madison Jeffrey and reliever Josh Swales left the tying runs on base in the ninth to earn his first save of the year.

Kyle Nevin had three more hits and an RBI, extending his hitting streak to eight straight games. Thayron Liranzo had two hits and three RBIs for the Rancho offense.

The Quakes (5-4) will take Monday off, then send Payton Martin (0-0) to the hill in Tuesday’s series-opener against Fresno.

Tuesday will be Education Day, with a special start time of 11am. Tickets are available at rcquakes.com. Go Quakes!
