Claws Get One Hit in 6-1 Friday Loss in Brooklyn

BROOKLYN, NY - Connor Gray came within two outs of pitching a no-hitter and Brooklyn topped the BlueClaws 6-1 on Friday night at Maimonides Park.

BROOKLYN, NY - Connor Gray came within two outs of pitching a no-hitter and Brooklyn topped the BlueClaws 6-1 on Friday night at Maimonides Park.

Corbin Williams hit a flare into center with one out in the ninth inning. Centerfield Antoine Duplantis dove after it but it got past him and Williams flew around the bases for his first professional home run.

The BlueClaws were two outs away from being no-hit for just the second time in franchise history. Asheville's Bruce Billings threw a no-hitter against the BlueClaws on July 23, 2008 at McCormick Field.

Gray (1-1) came out after the home run, allowing just the one hit over 8.1 innings while striking out nine.

Joe Suozzi homered in the second to put the Cyclones up 2-0. They added four more runs in the third. Egardo Fermin singled in a run for a 3-0 lead. Ronny Mauricio's RBI single, Cole Kleszcz's SAC fly, and Joe Genord's RBI single put the Cyclones up 6-0.

Tom Sutera (0-1) came off the injured list and was charged with all six runs. Ethan Lindow threw five scoreless innings, allowing just one hit, for the BlueClaws in relief.

The BlueClaws were held to one hit for the fourth time this season.

The teams continue their series on Saturday night at 6:00 pm and the BlueClaws return home on July 27th.
