The RockHounds won the opener of Tuesday's doubleheader at Security Bank Ballpark. Luke Tendler won the nightcap.
Okay, he had some help, but Tendler went 3-for-4 with two doubles and a home run and drove in Frisco's first four runs of the game as the RoughRiders gained a split of both the double-dip and the four-game series.
San Antonio, meanwhile, completed a four-game sweep of Corpus Christi, putting the Missions at the brink of the first half title.
The 'Hounds took the opener with
GAME ONE BOX SCORE
Tendler opened the scoring in the second game with a two-run double to left-center and pushed Frisco's lead to 3-0 with a solo home run into the left field bullpen in the fourth (both were opposite field drives).
The RockHounds rallied back with a game-tying, three-run rally in the fifth. Wilson got things going with a perfect bunt, followed by RBI doubles from
The tie didn't last long, however, as Royce Bolinger opened the Frisco sixth with a double down the left field line and Tendler (who else?) brought him home with a two-bagger down the right field line to finish off a terrific performance in the nightcap.
The Riders added an insurance run in the seventh and David Ledbetter pitched a pair of 1-2-3 innings for the save.
GAME TWO BOX SCORE
Quick Notes:
The San Antonio Missions are now on the brink of the first half title in the Texas League South. Frisco was mathematically eliminated on Monday and the Missions' sweep of Corpus Christi eliminated the Hooks. The RockHounds (33-31) are now four games back, but with only six to play. San Antonio travels to Frisco for a four-game series opening on Wednesday night before concluding the first half (and opening the second) at Corpus Christi.
There are six games remaining in the first half pennant race.
The RockHounds play the next four at Security Bank Ballpark:
June 14-17 • vs Corpus Christi Hooks • Wednesday at 6:30 pm, Thursday at 7:00 pm, Friday at 7:00 pm, Saturday at 7:00 pm
June 18-19 • at Frisco RoughRiders (the clubs then open the second half June 20-21, also at Frisco)
Jermaine Curtis has been terrific since joining the RockHounds from Extended Spring Training on May 31. The former Cardinal farmhands (he played five games in the Major Leagues with St. Louis in 2013) saw much of his time in spring training taken away by a hamstring injury, so the games with the RockHounds are his first of the season. In Tuesday's doubleheader, Curtis went 2-for-3 with three walks, scoring one run and driving in another (his fifth-inning walk in game one also turned into a run with pinch runner Jordan Tarsovich scoring). Curtis has a seven-game hit streak (12-for-23, .522) and has reached base in each of his 13 games with the RockHounds.
Yairo Munoz has hit in seven straight games (10-for-29, .345) and J.P. Sportman is 7-for-13 over his last four games.
Next Game:
The RockHounds now host the Corpus Christi Hooks in a four-game series beginning on Wednesday evening at 6:30 p.m.
Brock Dykxhoorn (RH, 1-3, 5.68 ERA) will start the series opener for Corpus Christi. He makes his 12th appearance (ninth start) for the Hooks and his second against the RockHounds. On May 3, he gave up seven runs (earned) on six hits, while walking four and striking out four over 2.2 innings in a 12-3 loss to the 'Hounds at Security Bank Ballpark. The 22-year-old from Delhi, Ontario, Canada, was selected by the Houston Astros in the sixth round of the 2014 draft out of Central Arizona College in Coolidge, AZ.
