The Texas League confirmed today what the Tulsa Drillers already knew - Tulsa pitcher Tim Shibuya is the league's Pitcher of the Week. In one of the easiest selections of the season, Shibuya received the honor after delivering two dominant starts last week.
On Monday, the right-hander came within one out of delivering the Drillers first ever 9-inning, complete-game no-hitter. Shibuya needed only one more out to close out the gem against Midland, but B.J. Boyd grounded a single into centerfield with two outs in the bottom of the ninth inning.
Six nights later, Shibuya turned in another quality outing, blanking the RockHounds for six innings.
For the week, the California-San Diego University product worked 14 2/3 shutout innings while allowing only 8 hits.
Shibuya is 3-0 with a 1.30 ERA on the season for the Drillers.
Corpus Christi outfielder Ramón Laureano edged Tulsa's Henry Ramos for the league's Hitter of the Week Award.
