Six different Indianapolis batters registered multiple hits in the contest, as the Tribe took the opener of the three-game set. Chris Bostick led the Tribe offense with two doubles and a single, while Austin Meadows hit a two-run home run as part of a three-RBI night.
Schafer plated all of Norfolk's runs in the fourth inning, when he lined a 3-2, two-out pitch into the right-center field gap for a bases-clearing triple. Schafer later added a single in the contest as he upped his hitting streak to six games, over which he's batted .473 (9-19) with six runs batted in.
Jordan Kipper (2-3) took the loss after yielding six runs on a career-high 14 hits over 6.1 innings of work. The TCU product walked one and struck out one, with 12 of the 14 hits against him being singles. Kipper threw 63 of his 97 pitches for strikes before giving way to Andrew Faulkner, who threw a scoreless inning of relief.
Luis Sardiñas had two hits and a run scored for the Tides, his third consecutive multi-hit game. Chance Sisco added two hits and a run scored, upping his average to .338 (25-74) with nine multi-hit contests in 20 games since May 18th.
Drew Hutchison (3-2) earned the win after allowing three runs on six hits over seven innings. He walked three and struck out three and retired 10 of the final 11 batters he faced.
The two teams will continue their three-game set on Wednesday night at Harbor Park, with first pitch slated for 7:05. Left-hander Chris Lee (3-3, 6.28) will get the start for Norfolk against right-hander Nick Kingham (2-2, 4.73).
Notes: Prior to Tuesday's game, catcher Audry Pérez was activated from Norfolk's Temporarily Inactive List while catcher Daniel Fajardo was transferred to Class-A Delmarva…Earlier Tuesday, the Orioles announced that catcher Francisco Peña had cleared waivers and was outrighted to Norfolk, while RHP Edwin Jackson elected free agency… Donnie Hart struck out both batters he faced out of the bullpen, giving him six straight scoreless appearances to open his Tides career… Craig Gentry singled and walked to extend his hitting streak to seven games.
