Vogelbach, Wong Homers Lift Rainiers To 3-2 Win Over Chihuahuas

TACOMA, Wash. - Home runs from first baseman Daniel Vogelbach and shortstop Joey Wong propelled the Tacoma Rainiers (64-66) to a 3-2 victory over the El Paso Chihuahuas (64-66) on Tuesday night at Cheney Stadium.
Wong, who was promoted from Double-A Arkansas on Tuesday morning, went 2-for-3 with a game-winning two-run home run in his first contest with the Rainiers. His was the only multi-hit performance on the night for Tacoma.

El Paso jumped out to a quick 1-0 lead in the top of the first and added to their lead in the top of the second with an RBI double from José Rondón .
Vogelbach swatted his 17th home run of the season in the bottom of the second - the line drive solo shot over the right field wall cut the Chihuahuas lead to 2-1.
It was in the bottom of the seventh that Wong - a native of Salem, Oregon and a product of Oregon State University - lifted a two-run home run down the right field line; it was just his second career Triple-A home run. The two-run shot gave the Rainiers a 3-2 lead they would not squander, creating the game's final margin.
Tacoma's bullpen - represented by Pat Light (1.1 IP), Dean Kiekhefer (1.2 IP), and Jeanmar Gómez (1.0 IP) - combined to hold the Chihuahuas off the scoreboard for the final four innings. Kiekhefer (3-3) earned his third win of the season, while Gomez was credited with his first save in a Rainiers uniform.
Rainiers starting pitcher Sam Gaviglio turned in a strong outing, working 5.0 innings and allowing just two runs (one earned) on five hits while striking out six.
The Rainiers enjoy their final off day of the season on Wednesday before traveling to Fresno for a four-game series against the Grizzlies beginning on Thursday at 7:05 p.m. PT. Tacoma will send right-hander Christian Bergman (9-3, 5.02) up against Fresno righty David Martinez (6-11, 4.81).
