Through the second Sunday of 2024 Spring Training, the Orioles lead Major League Baseball with a 9-1 record, edging the Dodgers (9-2-1). The lone loss came from a split squad game vs. Tampa Bay on February 26. The Orioles have won six games in a row since that split squad day and lead the Grapefruit League overall in run differential (+21).

LEFTY BASH BROS

COLTON COWSER played in six games to open up the first week of spring training, getting action in left, center and right field. He broke open Orioles Spring Training with a walk-off two-run home run vs. Boston on February 24. On February 28 at Minnesota, Cowser went 2-for-3 with a three-run homer, then homered again yesterday at Pittsburgh. Two of his homers this spring have come off lefties. So far, Cowser is slashing .364/.563/1.182/1.745 in 16 plate appearances.

KYLE STOWERS has also found success against lefties early this spring, launching three home runs against southpaws in seven games thus far with five RBI. Thus far, he is slashing .333/.375/.933/1.308, going 5-for-15 with a walk.

With three homers each, Cowser and Stowers are tied for the home run lead among nine MLB players. The six home runs are the most between two teammates so far. Their combined five homers vs. lefties leads all Grapefruit League teams.

WHO’s HOT

TYLER NEVIN is leading the O’s in hits this spring, going 8-for-18 (.444) with a double, a home run and two RBI. He’s tied for the MLB lead in hits with six other players.

DANIEL JOHNSON capped off a four-run comeback win on Feb. 29 vs. Pittsburgh with a walk-off RBI single. In nine games, he’s slashing .353/.389/.765/1.154 with the help of a 3-for-3 game on Feb. 27 where he was a home run shy of the cycle.

COBY MAYO leads the O’s in doubles with three in seven games played. He’s one of four players tied for the Grapefruit League lead. Mayo is 5-for-15 with three walks.

DIEGO CASTILLO has played second, third and shortstop in six games so far. He’s 4-for-12 with a double.

ERROL ROBINSON has played third and shortstop in nine games this spring, going 4-for-10 with two stolen bases.

TT BOWENS played the hero yesterday for the Orioles, launching a three-run homer in the top of the ninth at Pittsburgh to seal a 5-2 victory.

CADE POVICH has made two appearances so far, earning the win yesterday in relief. He owns a 2.25 ERA (1 ER, 4.0 IP) with five strikeouts to two walks.

GARRETT STALLINGS, JUSTIN ARMBRUESTER, BRYAN BAKER, WANDISSON CHARLES, ANDREW SUÁREZ, and KEEGAN AKIN have each thrown at least 2.2 scoreless innings, combining for 20.2 scoreless innings between the six pitchers.
