Through the third Sunday of 2024 Spring Training, the Orioles lead Major League Baseball with a 14-2-1 record, edging the Dodgers (12-3-1). The Orioles have not lost since March 4, going 5-1-1 last week.

TAKING FLIGHT

COBY MAYO stayed atop MLB Spring Training leaderboards following a six-game stretch in the previous week where he went 5-for-15 with two runs, two doubles, a home run, seven RBI and his first stolen base of the spring. On March 6 vs. Pittsburgh, he knocked the go-ahead two-RBI double in the bottom of the 8th to seal the 6-4, win. Three days later on March 9 at Atlanta, he went 2-for-4 with a double, a home run and four RBI. He’s currently tied for second among all MLB hitters in doubles (5) and extra-base hits (6), while ranking third in batting average (.333), tied for fourth in RBI (9), fourth in on-base percentage (.429), second in slugging (.600) and OPS (1.029) among Grapefruit League sluggers.

JACKSON HOLLIDAY heated up last week, going 4-for-11 at the plate in three games with two runs, a double, a triple, a home run and four RBI. He came a home run short of the cycle as part of a three-hit day on March 5 at Philadelphia. Holliday’s home run yesterday at Toronto marked the first grand slam by a Baltimore hitter this spring.

COLTON COWSER continued his hot start to the 2024 season with a hit in all three games he saw action in this past week. He’s now slashing .450/.577/1.050/1.627 through nine contests. Cowser is one of eight MLB hitters to launch four home runs and is tied fifth with 21 total bases among all hitters this spring.

WHO’s HOT

DIEGO CASTILLO continued his strong start to Spring Training, going 2-for-4 with an RBI and three walks in four games this week while playing second, third and shortstop. His RBI single in the 9th on March 5 at Philadelphia helped notch the 3-2 win.

ERROL ROBINSON logged time at third base and shortstop last week, going 1-for-3 at the plate with a team-leading four walks to elevate his on-base percentage to .579. He also swiped a team-leading two bases, moving him into a first-place tie (4) for swiped bags in the Grapefruit League. Robinson’s six walks are tied for fifth among all hitters in the Grapefruit League.

HESTON KJERSTAD collected two multi-hit efforts in four games this past week, combining to go 5-for-10 at the plate with a double, an RBI and a walk. He’s slashing .286/.333/.321/.654 through 11 games this spring training.

CADE POVICH worked 3.0 innings in relief on March 9 at Atlanta, striking out four batters without allowing an earned run.

ANDREW SUÁREZ, KEEGAN AKIN, DILLON TATE, JACOB WEBB and JULIO TEHERÁN all worked at least 2.0 innings without allowing a run this past week, helping the Orioles to an MLB-best 14-2-1 Spring Training record, leading the Los Angeles Dodgers (12-3-1)through March 10.

ALBERT SUÁREZ continued his strong spring, fanning a team-leading 11 batters through 7.0 innings across two starts since March 4, including seven strikeouts in 3.0 innings on March 5 at Philadelphia. He ranks tied for third in the Grapefruit with 13 strikeouts, while also being tied for sixth in innings pitched (9.0).
