PAWTUCKET, R.I. - The Buffalo Bisons (49-44) beat the Pawtucket Red Sox (37-55) by a score of 4-3, scoring a late 8th inning run to win it. Reliever Zach Jackson recorded his 7th win on the season out of the bullpen, winning the 5-game series for Buffalo, 3 games to 2.
The scoring began in the top of the third when Patrick Kivlehan hit a 2-run homerun, his 17th of the season. Kivlehan has played for both Indianapolis and Buffalo this season, hitting 13 of his 17 Triple-A homers for Buffalo, which leads the team despite playing only 43 games for them.
The Bisons would add one more in the following inning, as Jordan Patterson scored on a Bo Bichette groundout. This would give them a 3-0 lead after 4 innings of play.
The PawSox came back in the bottom of the 6th, first scoring on a Chris Owings 1-out double, driving in second baseman Tzu-Wei Lin. Owings has been raking for Pawtucket recently, hitting .353 with 2 homeruns in his last 10 games. The Sox then got a crucial 2-out double by third baseman Jantzen Witte which scored Owings and Rusney Castillo, knotting up the score at 3.
Billy McKinney led off the 8th inning for Buffalo with a 4-pitch walk served up by reliever Darwinzon Hernandez. The Bisons would later score the go-ahead run on a 2-out Jordan Patterson single, which drove in McKinney. Hernandez took the loss today, moving his record to 1-2 at the Triple-A level.
Josh A. Smith has his second start for Pawtucket since returning from the injured list today. He tossed 6 solid innings, allowing 7 hits and 3 runs, while striking out 5 during the outing.
