Series Outcome and Standings in the Balance - The Pawtucket Red Sox and the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders (AAA-Yankees) play the finale of their 4-game series this morning at 11:05 am at McCoy Stadium. A few things are on the line today. The winner will maintain at least sole poession of 5th-place and send the loser back alone into last-place in the IL North. And for the PawSox, who are up 2 games to 1 in this 4-game set, they bid to capture only their second outright series victory this month…that a 2-game sweep at home vs. Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on May 5 & 6. They have since lost four series in a row after splitting their first two series this month. Their last series victory of more than two games came when they won 2 of 3 in Buffalo from April 27-29. Overall the PawSox are 4-7-3 in their first 14 series of the season (4 wins, 7 losses, and 3 splits).

Top of the Morning to You - Today is the second of four morning starts here at McCoy. The Sox lost to Buffalo, 5-4 on the morning of May 16. They have two other 11:05 am home games over the next two months on June 7 vs. Louisville and July 26 vs. Columbus. Pawtucket is 5-9 in day games this season compared to 14-14 at night.
This Series - After back-to-back come-from-behind victories the first two nights of this series, the PawSox never threatened last night in suffering a 7-1 loss to snap their 5-game winning streak against Scranton/WB dating back to May 4. The Sox scored a run in the 7th and another in the 8th to pull out a 5-4 win in the series-opener on Monday night, and then Tuesday night the Sox erased an early 4-0 deficit and held on for a 7-6 victory. The PawSox came into this series in last-place in the IL North but their two victories the first two nghts vaulted them past Scranton/WB and sent the RailRiders into last-place, but the clubs are now in virtual tie for the 5th spot (although technically the PawSox are pct. points in last). These teams will face each other 18 times this season with 11 in Pawtucket and 7 in Moosic, PA. The next meeting will come in just over a month from June 29 - July 1 for a 3-game set at Scranton/WB. Pawtucket presently leads the season-series, 5 games to 2.
