MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (June 12, 2017) - Former Myrtle Beach Pelicans outfielder Lewis Brinson made his major league debut for the Milwaukee Brewers Sunday at Chase Field in Arizona. Brinson is the 160th former Pelican to play in the Major Leagues, including the fifth this season.

Rated by MLB.com as the top prospect in the Brewers' system and the No. 13 prospect in all of baseball, Brinson drew two walks and stole a base in the Brewers' loss to the Diamondbacks.

The Texas Rangers' first-round pick (29th overall) in 2012 out of Coral Springs High School (Fla.), Brinson hit .246/.307/.350 for the Pelicans in 2014. The outfielder socked eight doubles, one triple, three home runs and drove in 22 runs in 46 games.

Brinson was traded to the Milwaukee Brewers in the middle of the 2016 season along with two other minor leaguers in the deal that brought catcher Jonathan Lucroy and reliever Jeremy Jeffress to Texas. Brinson began the 2017 campaign with Triple-A Colorado Springs, batting .312/.397/.503 with 13 doubles, one triple, six homers and 25 RBIs in 45 games.

A native of Coral Springs, Fla., Brinson is the fifth Myrtle Beach alumnus to play in The Show for the first time in 2017. He joins utility players Drew Robinson (Texas) and Chris Bostick (Pittsburgh), left-handed pitcher Chad Bell and infielder/outfielder Ian Happ in making their Major League debuts this season.

Myrtle Beach is set to begin their final home series of the first half of the series with Monday's 7:05 p.m. contest against the Frederick Keys. With seven games to go until the All-Star Break, the Pelicans sit 3.0 games ahead of Buies Creek and 3.5 up on Carolina for first place in the Southern Division. Myrtle Beach's magic number to clinch their seventh consecutive postseason appearance is five.

The 2017 season is the 19th season for the Pelicans franchise and third as the Class A-Advanced affiliate of the Chicago Cubs. For information on tickets to see the Pelicans in 2017, please call (843) 918-6000, e-mail info@myrtlebeachpelicans.com, or visit www.MyrtleBeachPelicans.com.
