PENSACOLA, Fla. - Thursday's game between the Blue Wahoos and the Jackson Generals that was suspended because of stormy weather. When play resumed Friday evening at Blue Wahoos Stadium, finished off the win in the completion of Thursday's game, 3-2, before taking the second game 4-1.
Jose Rafael De Paula-who was brought in before play was suspended on Thursday-began the first game and struck out Kevin Medrano to end the ninth inning. Gabe Speier closed out the game for the Generals despite singles from Gavin LaValley and Brian O'Grady.
Wahoos starter Keury Mella (L, 4-2) struggled early in the second game. Mella lasted only three innings, he hit two batters and issued a season-high four walks. Mella allowed two runs in the third inning with Juniel Querecuto's triple serving as the only General hit in the frame. Seth Varner replaced Mella in the fourth inning and allowed two runs on two walks and a double to Rudy Flores.
Generals starter Alex Young (W, 5-1) fired eight shutout innings in one of his best starts of the season. Young held the Wahoos to three hits over his eight innings and did not allow a runner in scoring position after Mella's double in the third. Despite allowing one run in the ninth inning, Kirby Bellow closed out the ninth to seal a win for Jackson.
In game three of the series, right-handed pitcher Anthony DeSclafani (0-0, 0.00) will make his second rehab start for the Wahoos. Right-hander Taylor Widener (1-2, 3.16) will take the hill for Jackson in hopes of giving the visitors a series win.
