Harrisburg Quiets Portland Bats in Game Five

HARRISBURG, PA – For the first time this season, the Portland Sea Dogs were shutout by the Harrisburg Senators, 3-0 on Saturday night at FNB Field. Portland now falls to 17-12 on the season while Harrisburg improves to 10-18.

Portland threatened with a leadoff double in the first inning by Jeisson Rosario, but Harrisburg’s starter, Luis Reyes, then retired the next 13 Sea Dogs. Jhonny Pereda recorded a single in the fifth inning with one out, but Reyes again retired the next two batters.

Portland starter Denyi Reyes (2-1) was given the loss. In his second start of the season, he tossed 5.0 innings allowing three runs on seven hits while striking out seven. He did not allow a walk. Luis Reyes (2-3) was given the win for Harrisburg pitching 5.0 shutout innings allowing two hits while striking out six.

Aldrem Corredor hit a lead-off home run in the bottom of the second inning to score the first run of the game and Harrisburg led, 1-0.

The Senators struck again in the bottom of the fourth inning. After a single by Jakson Reetz, he came around to score on an RBI double by Drew Mendoza. Carlos Tocci drove home Mendoza with an RBI single and the Senators extended their lead, 3-0.

The Sea Dogs and Senators meet tomorrow, June 5 at 1:00pm for the series finale. Portland will send LHP Matthew Kent (1-0, 1.38 ERA) to the mound in his first start of the season. LHP Tim Cate (1-2, 4.65) will make the start for Harrisburg.
