Sea Dogs walk-off with a 7-6 win in 10 innings

Portland, Maine- The Portland Sea Dogs (43-24) rallied for four runs in the ninth inning to tie the game and walked off with a 7-6 victory over the Harrisburg Senators (25-44) in extra innings.

Tanner Nishioka delivered the game-winning hit, an RBI single in the 10th scoring Jhonny Pereda.

After having their franchise-record win streak snapped last night, tonight the Sea Dogs ended their 11-game losing streak in extra innings at home. Since the addition of the runner starting at second base in extra innings rule was implemented in 2018, the Sea Dogs had been 1-17 at home in extra innings and had not won an extra-inning home game since August 14, 2018.

Harrisburg jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning. Cole Freeman doubled to lead off the game and scored on an Aldrem Corredor single. Corredor advanced to second on a Brayan Bello wild pitch and scored on a Jake Alu single.

The game was delayed for an hour and 28 minutes due to rain after the first inning.

Rio Gomez tossed four shutout innings in relief after the delay, holding the Senators to four hits while striking out six with no walks.

Portland loaded the bases in the third inning with no outs on a Tanner Nishioka single and two walks. Nishioka scored on Devlin Granberg ground out. Harrisburg pitcher Bryan Dobzanski got Tyreque Reed to ground into a double play to end the threat.

Alu extended the Senators lead to 3-1 with a solo home run to right field in the sixth inning, his second of the season.

Harrisburg added two runs in the ninth to take a 5-1 lead. Jackson Cluff had an RBI single and Nick Banks doubled scoring Cluff.

Nick Sogard, who joined the Sea Dogs today from Single-A Greenville, collected his first Double-A hit with an RBI single in the ninth to make it 5-2. Fitzgerald scored when Jeisson Rosario reached on a fielder’s choice and Tyreque Reed tied the game with a two-run single through the hole at second base to send the game to extra innings.

In the 10th, Rhett Wiseman doubled to score Cole Freeman to give Harrisburg a 6-5 lead.

In the bottom half of the inning, Ryan Fitzgerald doubled to score Hudson Potts setting the stage for Nishioka’s walk-off hit scoring Fitzgerald.

Dominic LoBrutto (2-1) earned the win pitching the final 1.1 innings, allowing one run on one hit and recording one strikeout.

Jhonny Pereda had a perfect day at the plate for the Sea Dogs going 3-for-3 with two walks.

The Sea Dogs and Senators continue the series Saturday night at 6:00 PM. Right-handed pitcher Justin Winckowski (5-1, 4.04) will start for Portland.
