Sea Dogs to Honor Astronaut Chris Cassidy with Bobblehead

Portland, Maine- The Portland Sea Dogs will continue with their series of bobbleheads featuring notable Mainers in 2023 with a bobblehead giveaway of NASA Astronaut and Maine native Chris Cassidy, presented by the Spirit AeroSystems, on Tuesday, May 23rd when the Sea Dogs host the New Hampshire Fisher Cats (Blue Jays affiliate) at 6:00 PM at Hadlock Field.
The first 1,000 fans to enter the ballpark on May 23rd will receive the Chris Cassidy bobblehead. Gates open at 4:30 PM.
Cassidy will also be making a special appearance at the game where he will throw out the ceremonial first pitch. Cassidy will also be available for a pregame question and answer session which will be held in the Corporate Corner, located behind the left field grandstand at Hadlock Field from 5:00 to 5:30 PM. He will be available for autographs and photos from 6:00 to 7:00 PM at the Sea Dogs autograph table located on the third base side of the concourse.
The night will include educational displays in the concourse at Hadlock Field, with Spirit AeroSystems team members on hand to discuss how their materials are being used on ground-breaking space Initiatives like the Orion Multi-Purpose Crew Vehicle for NASA’s Artemis program, and the heat shield for the recent Mars 2020 Mission. The Challenger Learning Center of Maine will also be at the game. The Center offers "hands-on, minds-on" learning experiences that are out of this world! They merge the power of imagination with the excitement of discovery, using many of the same techniques employed by NASA.
Tickets for this game and all Portland Sea Dogs home games are available online at seadogs.com or by calling the Sea Dogs ticket office at 207-879-9500. Advance ticket prices range between $11 and $13 for adults and $8 to $12 for kids (16 and under) and seniors (62 and over).
Cassidy was selected as an astronaut by NASA in 2004 and is a veteran of three space flights, STS‐127, Expedition 35, and Expedition 63. During STS‐127, Cassidy served as a Mission Specialist and was the 500th person in history to fly into space. This mission delivered the Japanese Experiment Module Exposed Facility (JEM‐EF) and the Experiment Logistics Module Exposed Section (ELM‐ES) to the station. For Expedition 35, Cassidy and the European Space Agency (ESA) astronaut Luca Parmitano had their unplanned spacewalk to replace a pump controller box cut short when Parmitano had cooling water leak into his helmet. On Expedition 63, Cassidy served as Commander on the International Space Station. Cassidy has completed 10 spacewalks and has accumulated 54 hours, 51 minutes of spacewalk time and a total of 378 days in space.
Cassidy, a U.S. Navy SEAL, has been deployed twice to the Mediterranean and twice to Afghanistan. He has been the recipient of Bronze Star with combat 'V' and Presidential Unit Citation for leading a nine‐day operation at the Zharwar Kili Cave on the Afghanistan/Pakistan border.
Cassidy, a 1988 graduate of York High School completed his BS in Mathematics at the US Naval Academy in 1993, his MS in Ocean Engineering from MIT in 2000 and received an honorary PhD from Husson University in 2015.
Cassidy previously made an appearance at Hadlock Field in 2019 and fellow Maine native and NASA Astronaut Jessica Meir made an appearance at the ballpark in 2022.
Previous bobbleheads in the Sea Dogs Notable Mainers Series have included Senator Margaret Chase Smith in 2017, NESN personality Tom Caron in 2018, Olympian Joan Benoit Samuelson in 2019, and actor Patrick Dempsey in 2022.
