Portland, Maine – Phillip Sikes broke a 2-2 tie in the seventh inning blasting his first home run of the season to lift the Portland Sea Dogs (17-14) to a 4-2 win over the Binghamton Rumble Ponies (18-13) on Sunday afternoon. The win snapped a five game losing streak for the Sea Dogs.

Zach Penrod fired five strong innings and set a career-high with ten strikeouts. He did not issue a walk to Binghamton. Jacob Webb earned his third win while Alex Hoppe earned his second save. Phillip Sikes hit his first homer of the season while Kyle Teel extended a six-game hit streak.

Teel put Portland on the board first in the bottom of the first inning with a single to score Roman Anthony who reached with his ninth double of the season.

In the top of the fourth, Kevin Parada would tie the game at one with a solo shot to left field.

Marcelo Mayer put Portland back on top, 2-1 with an RBI single to score Anthony in the bottom of the fifth inning.

Another homer for Binghamton in the bottom of the seventh would tie the game again. The solo shot to center field off the bat of Mateo Gil would even it at two.

In the bottom of the seventh, Sikes countered with a homer of his own. A two-run shot over the Maine Monster in left field would mark his first of the season and propel Portland to a 4-2 win.

RHP Jacob Webb (3-0, 2.95 ERA) earned the win after pitching 2.0 innings allowing one run on two hits while striking out two. He did not issue a walk. Alex Hoppe (2) earned the save after pitching 1.0 scoreless and hitless inning allowing one walk while striking out one. RHP Andre Scrubb (0-1, 3.27 ERA) was issued the loss after pitching 1.0 inning allowing two runs on one hit while walking one.

The Sea Dogs hit the road to take on the Somerset Patriots for a six-game series beginning on Tuesday, May 14th, 2024. The first pitch for game one is slated for 6:05 pm. Both probable pitchers have yet to be announced.
