Albuquerque Scores Eight Unanswered To Win 13-7

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - After blowing a 5-0 lead, the Albuquerque Isotopes rallied to beat the Memphis Redbirds 13-7 at Isotopes Park on Tuesday night in the second game of a four-game series.

The Isotopes scored four runs in the fourth off Tyler Lyons. Alfredo Amezaga, doubled home a pair of runs and Albuquerque starting pitcher Blake Johnson followed with a two-run, inside-the-park home run. Tim Federowicz' RBI double in the fifth extended the lead to 5-0.

Memphis pulled within a run as it chased Johnson with a four-run sixth. Jamie Romak hit a three-run homer, his fifth of the season. That would be the end of the night for the right-hander as Albuquerque called on Steve Smith. He promptly loaded the bases before Kolten Wong singled to make it 5-4.

The Redbirds, who had not scored more than two runs in the first five games of the road trip, weren't done swinging the bats. In the seventh, Chad Huffman followed a walk to Romak with a two-run shot to left, his third, giving the 'Birds a 6-5 lead. Two batters later, Travis Tartamella hit a monstrous home run to center field, extending the lead to 7-5. It was the catcher's first Triple-A homer. All the damage was done against Red Patterson (1-1), who would eventually get credit for the win.

It was the Isotopes' turn in the bottom of the seventh as they opened the inning with a pair of singles off Marc Rzepczynski before Memphis skipper Pop Warner summoned Keith Butler (0-1) from the pen.

Butler would give up an RBI single to Federowicz and a run-scoring double to Rusty Ryal as the 'Topes tied the game at 7-7. After an intentional walk to Brian Barden, Amezaga delivered a go-ahead sacrifice fly. Chilli Buss capped off the rally with a pinch-hit, three-run homer.

Albuquerque wrapped up the scoring with two more runs in the eighth when Federowicz homered with a runner aboard off Sam Freeman for a final of 13-7. The Albuquerque catcher finished the game with four hits, four RBIs, and was a triple shy of hitting for the cycle.

The teams combined for six home runs one night after a 2-1 pitchers' duel won by Albuquerque on Monday.
