May 12, 2013

MEMPHIS, Tenn. - The Fresno Grizzlies scored three runs in the top of the 11th inning to come-from-behind and beat the Memphis Redbirds, 7-4, on Sunday afternoon at AutoZone Park.

With no outs and runners on first and second, Barret Browning (0-2) walked the first batter faced and then allowed three consecutive singles in the 11th, highlighted by RBI hits from Johnny Monell and Gary Brown.

Memphis (19-16) moved to 1-5 in extra-inning play this season and lost to Fresno for the second game in a row after leading.

Nick Additon twirled his second consecutive quality start for a no-decision, giving a pair of runs on five hits with six strikeouts. After yielding two runs in the opening frame, Additon finished with five scoreless and retired a stretch of 12 straight batters.

Kolten Wong went 3-for-5 with a double and run scored. Oscar Taveras, Ryan Jackson, and Justin Christian each added two hits in the loss.

Fresno opened the contest with a 2-0 lead on three hits in the top of the first against Additon. Kensuke Tanaka singled on the first pitch of the game and scored on the ensuing double from Gary Brown. Two batters later, Chris Dominguez singled home Brown.

Wong scored the Redbirds' first run in the bottom of the first. The second baseman singled, moved to third on a Brock Peterson single, and scored on a wild pitch from Shane Loux.

Memphis took a 3-1 lead in the third on a couple of doubles from Jackson and Christian.

Chad Huffman provided a pinch hit solo homer over the left field wall in the bottom of the sixth inning to extend the Memphis lead to 4-2. The long ball was Huffman's fourth of the year and first pinch hit tater by Memphis this season.

Fresno scored two runs to knot the contest at 4-4 in the seventh and send the ballgame into extras. Dominguez got things started with a leadoff solo homer off Eduardo Sanchez. Two walks later, Sanchez allowed a bases-loaded, game-tying single by Juan Ciriaco.

Sam Freeman struck out both left-handed batters he faced to strand two runners in 2/3 of an inning. Eric Fornataro struck out one over one inning. Marc Rzepczynski pitched a scoreless inning while striking out two.

Loux gave up three runs on nine hits in five innings for Fresno. Jean Machi (2-0) earned the win while Heath Hembree converted his PCL-leading 11th save.

The Redbirds and Grizzlies will continue their series at 7:05 pm CT on Monday evening at AutoZone Park. Right-hander Maikel Cleto (1-1, 7.79) takes the mound against Fresno left-hander Michael Kickham (0-4, 5.65).
