Haase's blast leads RubberDucks to 7-4 win

Summary<o:p>
Eric Haase belted a go-ahead two-run homer in the bottom of the eighth to give the Akron RubberDucks a 7-4 win over the Harrisburg Senators at Canal Park on Thursday evening.

Turning Point<o:p>
Trailing 4-3 in the bottom of the eighth, Bobby Bradley lead off the inning by reaching on an error by Senators second basemen Khayyan Norfork. Eric Haase followed with a two-run home run that gave Akron a 5-4 lead. The homer was the start of a big inning, in which Akron scored four runs to give them a 7-4 cushion heading into the ninth inning.

Winging It<o:p>
RubberDucks starter Luis Lugo tossed six innings, allowing three runs on eight hits, walking two and striking out four. Lugo left the game with the score knotted at 3-3. In relief, Robbie Aviles entered and worked two innings, allowing one run on four hits and picking up his second win of the season. Harrisburg starter Matthew Crownover worked 5.1 innings, yielding three runs on five hits and striking out five. Cameron Hill came on for the save in the ninth and picked up his second save. Hill allowed back-to-back singles before rolling up a 3-6-3 double play to end the game.

Duck Tales<o:p>
Akron scored in the first inning, when Francisco Mejía tripled, followed by Bobby Bradley's single to score Mejia. In the fifth, the Ducks added another run with a fielder's choice RBI groundout from newcomer Jonathan Laureano scoring Yu Chang who reached by hitting a double. The Ducks would go on to break the game open by scoring four in the eighth. Following Haase's two-run bomb, Yu Chang scored on a throwing error by Harrisburg pitcher Braulio Lara on a ball hit back to him from Connor Marabell. Jordan Smith would add to the attack with an RBI single. Smith now has a five-game hitting streak and is 8-21 during that stretch. The middle of the Akron lineup did the heavy lifting for the offense as Mejia, Bradley and Haase combined to go 5-12 with three RBI and three runs scored.

Notebook<o:p>
Eric Haase hit his 11th home run of the season, which is second on the team… Haase also leads the team with five home runs with runners on base… Jonathan Laureano made his Double-A debut Thursday night starting at third base… Laureano went 0-4 on the night… RubberDucks infielder Mark Mathias was placed on the 7-day DL with right shoulder soreness… Time of Game: 2:48…Attendance: 4,437.

Akron will begin a three game series with the Portland Sea Dogs at Canal Park on Friday at 7:05. Southpaw Matt Whitehouse (2-2, 3.40) will start for the RubberDucks against Jacob Dahlstrand (5-1, 5.93) for the Sea Dogs.
