The Albuquerque Isotopes (23-34) avoided a series sweep with a 7-1 Sunday afternoon victory over the Salt Lake Bees (27-30).

The Isotopes batters got to Bees starting pitcher John Swanda early, scratching three runs across in the top of the first inning and following it up with another four in the third inning. Swanda allowed nine hits, all singles, during his 2.2 innings of work and all seven runs scored by the Isotopes went on his ledger. A relief combination of Cesar Valdez, Cam Vieaux, Jimmy Herget and Jonathan Holder combined to not allow a run over the final 5.1 innings.

David Fletcher had three hits, including his first home run of the year, to provide a bright spot for the Bees. Michael Stefanic had a pair of hits to extend his record on-base streak to 59 consecutive games. Despite the loss the Bees took the series against the Isotopes five games to one. The loss drops the Bees to 6-10 this season in day games.

The Bees take Monday off before starting a six-game series against the Round Rock Express (Triple-A Texas Rangers) at Smith’s Ballpark on Tuesday night.
