A pair of fifth inning home runs sank the Salt Lake Bees (19-25) as the Las Vegas Aviators (21-23) took a 4-3 victory in front of a packed crowd of 11,223 on Military Appreciation Night at Smith’s Ballpark.

The Bees and Aviators were tied up at 1-1 going into the fifth when Max Schuemann hit a lead-off home run followed by a Jonah Bride two-run homer that put the Aviators up 4-1 just two batters later. Salt Lake battled back with a Meibrys Viloria solo home run in the seventh and a Michael Stefanic RBI single in the eighth. The Bees got the tying run on base in the bottom of the ninth but left pinch runner Chris Okey stranded to end the game.

Jared Oliva was a star for the Bees as he started the scoring with an inside-the-park home run and then robbed Tyler Soderstrom of extra bases with a leaping catch against the wall in the ninth. Stefanic extended his record breaking on-base streak to 47 consecutive games. Jake Lee took the loss for the Bees after allowing four runs over 5.2 innings. Jonathan Holder led the Bees bullpen with 2.1 innings of scoreless work to keep Salt Lake in the game late.

Salt Lake and Las Vegas will finish the six-game series on Sunday afternoon with a 1:05 p.m. matinee start.
