Bartolo Colon to Start for Monclova Friday, April 30th

San Antonio - Former Cy Young Award winner Bartolo Colon will be the starting pitcher for the Acereros de Monclova this Friday, April 30th against the Tecolotes de los Dos Laredos. This will be the second Liga Mexicana de Beisbol game hosted at Nelson Wolff Stadium and presented by H-E-B.

“Big Sexy” spent 21 seasons in Major League Baseball after debuting with the Cleveland Indians in 1997. He last played for the Texas Rangers in 2018.

Over that span, Colon accumulated a record of 247-188. He is tied for 50th most wins by a pitcher in MLB history.

The 47-year-old right hander was a four-time MLB All-Star (1998, 2005, 2013, 2016) and was awarded the 2005 American League Cy Young Award. As a member of the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim that season, he went 21-8 with a 3.48 ERA over 33 starts.

Colon initially signed a one-year deal to play for Monclova in 2020, but the season was cancelled due to the Coronavirus pandemic. It was announced in February of 2021 that Colon had signed a one-year deal once again to play for Monclova.

Tickets are on sale now and can be purchased at the box office from 10 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. or online at samissions.com. The box office will be open on game day at 10 a.m. and close at the top of the seventh inning. Gates will open at 6 p.m. with first pitch at 7:05 p.m.

The San Antonio Missions will start their season on May 4th. The home opener is scheduled for May 18th at The Wolff against the Frisco RoughRiders. Individual tickets for the month of May are now available for purchase
