The San Antonio Missions' debut game in Triple-A baseball took on some added sizzle when it was reported Monday that they would face Los Angeles Dodgers' ace pitcher Clayton Kershaw.
Recovering from shoulder inflammation, Kershaw will make a minor league rehab start in Oklahoma City Thursday night against the Missions, the Associated Press reported.
Adrian Houser is expected to start for San Antonio in the club's first game in the Pacific Coast League.
In Los Angeles, Dodgers manager Dave Roberts joked that the rehab assignment would allow Kershaw to keep his opening-day streak alive.
Kershaw had been set to start the Dodgers' big league opener last week for a franchise-record ninth consecutive season, but that plan was scrapped after the left-hander's shoulder bothered him throughout spring training.
