MOOSIC, PA (June 30, 2022) – The Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders have announced that Tommy Smith, bat boy for the Trenton Thunder, is being promoted to Triple-A on Saturday, July 2, when the RailRiders host the Buffalo Bisons at PNC Field. First pitch is slated for 6:05 P.M.

“We are excited to welcome Tommy back to Triple-A,” stated John Adams, the RailRiders Team President. “Players and fans love Tommy and we are thrilled to have him back at PNC Field on the biggest night of the season.”

Smith, a 31-year-old with special needs, joined the Thunder in 2016 while the team was affiliated with the New York Yankees. He began by working 20-30 games a year before taking on the full home slate by the 2019 campaign. Smith served as a bat boy for the Eastern League All-Star Game in 2019 and is an accomplished athlete himself, having medaled at the Special Olympics.

In addition to working with many of the RailRiders players while they were in Double-A, Smith is also no stranger to the Bisons. He served as their bat boy in 2021 when the team played their home games at Trenton Thunder Ballpark while the Toronto Blue Jays were calling Sahlen Field in Buffalo home.

Gates open at 5 P.M. on July 2 with a PA Lottery ticket voucher giveaway for the first 2,500 fans 18 and older. There is also an SWB pop socket giveaway for the first 2,500 fans regardless of age. Scranton/Wilkes-Barre players will wear custom patriotic jerseys that will be auctioned off to benefit Camp Freedom. After the game ends, fans will be delighted by an extended fireworks show to celebrate early on Independence weekend, courtesy of the PA Lottery.
