Halted: Bastidas, Peraza Homer in SWB Loss

MOOSIC, PA (May 27th, 2023) The Scranton Wilkes-Barre Railriders fell to the Worcester WooSox 11-7 on Saturday. Jesus Bastidas and Oswald Peraza homered in the afternoon’s contest, totaling a Minor League high 87 as a team.

In the top of the first, Aaron McGarity kicked things off by striking out the side.

Worcester struck first in the top of the second. With the bases loaded, Ryan Fitzgerald drew a walk, scoring Wilyer Abreu. Daniel Palka scored two on a base hit, and David Hamilton hit an RBI single giving the WooSox a 4-0 lead.

Abreu hit a solo shot to lead off the third, Palka hit a three run homer as well, bringing the Worcester lead to 8-0.

Bobby Dalbec led off the fifth inning with a home run extending the WooSox lead to 9-0.

In the bottom of the fifth, Carlos Narvaez drew a walk and Billy McKinney followed that up with a single to put two on. Then Jesús Bastidas homered in his second straight game making it 9-3. Later in the frame, after a walk to Elijah Dunham, Oswald Peraza launched his sixth home run of the season to make it 9-5 and chip away at the Worcester lead.

Fitzgerald and Palka brought the lead to 11-5 with a pair of RBI singles for the WooSox in the top of the sixth.

In the bottom of the seventh, Wilmer Difo was hit by a pitch, stole a base and scored when Estevan Florial ripped an RBI double. Florial advanced to third on a fielding error and scored on a wild pitch making it 11-7 in favor of Worcester.

Aaron McGarity (L, 4-1) went an inning plus, allowing four runs on no hits, striking out three and walking three. James Norwood tossed a frame giving up three runs on three hits while fanning two. Barrett Loseke pitched 2.2 innings letting up two runs on three hits with three strikeouts. Matt Bowman pitched 0.2 innings allowing two runs on a hit and three walks while striking out one. Michael Gomez tossed 2.1 scoreless innings with a strikeout. Greg Weissert pitched 1.1 innings without allowing a run while tallying two strikeouts.

Jake Faria got the start for Worcester going 4.2 innings allowing four runs on four hits with five strikeouts. Cam Booser (W, 1-0) allowed a run and a hit while tossing 1.1 innings. Joe Jacques pitched an inning, allowing two runs to cross the board, one earned. Chase Shugart and Kaleb Ort tossed a scoreless eighth and ninth.

The Railriders wrap up their homestand on Sunday afternoon. Righty Will Warren is slated to toe the rubber with first pitch scheduled for 1:05 PM.
