The Snappers returned home on Thursday and broke their five-game losing skid with a 4-1 win to open the homestand. Beloit also bumped their record back to the .500 mark for the 17th time this season.
In a 1-1 ballgame, the Snappers loaded the bases on three walks by Clinton starter Ryne Inman. The LumberKings made the move to the bullpen with the sacks full and Josh Vidales greeted new pitcher Tim Viehoff with a go-ahead RBI singled through the left side of the infield. Mike Martin added an RBI with the fourth walk of the inning to bring another run home. Later in the seventh with runners on the corners, Edwin Diaz executed the suicide squeeze to score Luke Persico with a well-placed bunt up the first base line.
Snappers starter Kyle Twomey continued his strong run of pitching and picked up his second win of the year. The southpaw allowed just one unearned run on an RBI double by Joe Rizzo, on of just four hits allowed by Twomey while he struck out five. Jesus Zambrano and Ty Damron contributed scoreless relief as Damron received the save in his first appearance at Pohlman Field since May 22.
Jesus Lopez put Beloit on the board in the second inning when he hit his first home run, a solo shot, after an eight-pitch battle with two outs. Vidales got aboard all four times he went to the plate by going 3-for-3 with a walk and a stolen base. Martin had a 2-for-4 day with a walk, and Kyle Nowlin reached three times on two walks and a base hit. Persico had the Snappers only extra-base hit, his 21st double to lead off the seventh inning.
