Patriots Jump Out Early And Hold On To Win

Hartford, Connecticut –The Somerset Patriots (7-4) defeated the Hartford Yard Goats (5-6) 5-4 at Dunkin’ Donuts Park on Wednesday evening.

Anthony Volpe (2) led off the ballgame with a no doubt home run to left center field.

Jesus Bastidas lined an RBI single to right in the second to score Blake Perkins for a 2-0 advantage.

Josh Breaux (5) led off the third with a solo shot to right to extend the lead.

In the sixth, Perkins drove home Brandon Lockridge with a triple and scored on a Mickey Gasper base hit for a 6-0 advantage.

The Yard Goats then scored four unanswered runs, starting with an RBI double by Brenton Doyle in the sixth.

A three-run eighth inning, highlighted by RBI base hits by Jameson Hannah and Isaac Collins, cut the lead to one for the 5-4 final.

Mitch Spence (1-1) went five scoreless innings and struck out five for the win. Mitchell Kilkenny (0-3) suffered the loss after he allowed two earned runs on two hits in two innings pitched. Derek Craft (2) earned the save with 1.1 scoreless innings pitched.

The Patriots and the Yard Goats will continue the series with a 7:05 p.m. game on Thursday night at Dunkin’ Donuts Park. Fans can catch the action on FOX Sports New Jersey 93.5 FM | 1450 AM, the Flagship Station for Somerset Patriots Baseball.
