Springfield, MO - The Texas League announced on Monday that Springfield Cardinals LHP Kyle Hald has been named the Texas League Pitcher of the Week for the week of May 5 - 11. He is already the third Cardinal to win a Weekly Award this season, with OF James Ramsey winning the Player of the Week Award for April 3 - 13 and 1B Jonathan Rodriguez winning it for April 21 - 27.
Hald, 24, was dominant in his lone start on the week, guiding the Cardinals to the 2-1 win against the Tulsa Drillers last Tuesday. The lefty tossed a season-high seven scoreless innings, striking out a season-high seven batters while limiting Tulsa to just three hits and one walk. From midway through the second until midway through the seventh, Hald retired an incredible 15 of the 16 batters he faced.
The Springfield, Virginia native has gotten off to a great start to his Double-A career since joining Springfield on April 20. Through his first four starts with the Cardinals, he has gone 2-0 with a 1.61 ERA. Hald has racked up 19 strikeouts through 22.1 total frames, while surrendering only five runs (four earned).
Prior to joining Springfield, Hald posted a 2-0 record and a 2.13 ERA through two starts with the Palm Beach Cardinals (High-A). He was selected by St. Louis in the 18th round of the 2011 June Draft out of Old Dominion University in Norfolk, Virginia.
