Springfield, MO - The St. Louis Cardinals announced on Monday that recent Springfield Cardinals LHP Kevin Siegrist, now pitching for the Memphis Redbirds (AAA), has been named the St. Louis Minor League Pitcher of the Month for May. Additionally, former Springfield Cardinals 2B Kolten Wong (2012) was named the Minor League Player of the Month.

Siegrist, 23, started the season in Springfield and was dominant out of the Cardinals bullpen prior to his promotion to Memphis on May 24. Siegrist debuted in Double-A during the 2012 season, going 1-2 with a 3.62 ERA through eight appearances (five starts) in Springfield last year. He helped the Cardinals claim the 2012 Texas League Championship, going 1-1 with a 4.22 ERA through two postseason starts. Siegrist was selected by St. Louis in the 41st Round of the 2007 June Draft out of Palm Beach Community College.

Wong, 22, played in 25 games with the Memphis Redbirds throughout the month of May, compiling a .375 batting average with four home runs and eight RBIs. He led all Redbirds during the month with 39 hits and 23 runs, adding four stolen bases.

The Hilo, HI native is hitting .327 with four homers and 20 RBIs through 51 games in Memphis this season. Wong was an instrumental part of the 2012 Texas League Championship squad in Springfield last year, batting .287 with nine home runs and 52 RBIs through 126 games. He logged a 15-game hitting streak for Springfield from 5/14/12 - 5/31/12, hitting .343 (23-for-67) during that stretch. Wong was selected by St. Louis in the 1st Round of the 2011 June Draft out of the University of Hawaii.
