Saints Drop Finale In Extras To Storm Chasers, 3-2 In 10

ST. PAUL, MN (September 12, 2021) - For the 30th and final time the St. Paul Saints and Omaha Storm Chasers battled it out in 2021. And nothing was decided. After their 3-2 loss in 10 innings in front of 6,122 at CHS Field the Saints finished 15-15 against the Storm Chasers.

With the game tied at two in the 10th, Bobby Witt Jr. was the placed runner at second and reliever Chris Nunn was on the mound for the Saints. Emmanuel Rivera flew out to right that moved Witt Jr. to third. With the infield drawn in, Ryan McBroom hit a shallow pop up to right that was just out of the reach of first baseman Tomás Telis that fell for an RBI single to give the Storm Chasers a 3-2 lead.

In the bottom of the inning with David Bañuelos the placed runner at second, BJ Boyd led off by grounding out to first that sent Bañuelos to third. Telis would ground back to the mound and Gilberto Celestino struck out to end the game.

The Storm Chasers got a long ball in the second to get on the board first as MJ Melendez drilled a solo homer to right, his ninth at Triple-A and Minor League leading 37th, giving them a 1-0 lead.

The Saints got a solo homer of their own in the bottom of the inning as Jimmy Kerrigan launched a solo shot to left, his 19th of the season, tying the game at one.

The Storm Chasers took the lead in the fourth as Travis Jones reached on a one out single to right. That was followed by a walk to Erick Mejia. After a strikeout of Witt Jr., Rivera drove home Jones with a single to left giving the Storm Chasers a 2-1 lead.

The Saints finally tied it up in the bottom of the seventh when Drew Maggi hit a two-out, solo homer to left, his 16th of the season, knotting the game at two.

The Saints are off on Monday and begin a six-game series on Tuesday night against the Indianapolis Indians at Victory Field at 6:05 p.m. central. Both teams are TBA. The game can be heard on KFAN Plus, 96.7 FM.
