Saints Streak Of Scoring A Run Ends At 61-Straight Games, Fall 10-0 To Storm Chasers

ST. PAUL, MN (June 30, 2022) - April 19 in Toledo the St. Paul Saints were blanked by the Mud Hens. Since then, the Saints have scored 339 runs, or 5.6 runs per game. On Thursday night at CHS Field, they were blanked for the first time in their last 61 games, 10-0 to the Omaha Storm Chasers in front of 7,237.

The Storm Chasers put the game away early scoring seven runs in the first, all before the second out was recorded. Dairon Blanco led off the game with a single off the wall in right. Nick Pratto made it 2-0 with a two-run homer to right, his 13th of the season. Nate Eaton doubled, and Michael Massey followed with a two-run homer to right-center, his fourth of the season, giving the Storm Chasers a 4-0 lead. After a strikeout of Brewer Hicklen, Clay Dungan and Gabriel Cancel reached n back-to-back singles. Jose Briceño hit the third home run of the inning, a three-run shot to center, increasing the lead to 7-0.

The Saints had one of their better opportunities to score in the bottom of the inning when Spencer Steer led off the inning with a double. Unfortunately, he was left stranded at second.

In the third, the Storm Chasers made it 8-0 scoring a run with nobody on and two out. Briceño was hit by a pitch, moved to second on a single from Angelo Castellano, and scored on an RBI single by Blanco.

In the bottom of the inning, the Saints had their next best opportunity to score as Jake Cave tripled to left-center with two outs. That extended Cave’s hitting streak to 11 games and extended his streak of reaching base safely to 44 consecutive games, second longest in Minor League Baseball this season. Tim Beckham walked, but Mark Contreras struck out to end the inning.

Briceño continued his hot night with a one out double in the fifth. With two outs, Blanco collected his third hit of the game, an RBI single to right-center making it 9-0 Storm Chasers.

The last run came in the eighth when Brewer Hicklen hit a solo homer to left-center, his 11th of the season.

The Saints got another leadoff double from Steer in the eighth. He moved to third on a Cave groundout, but Beckham fouled out to first, and Contreras flew out to center.

In the ninth, the Saints got back-to-back walks with one out, but John Andreoli and José Godoy struck out to end the game.

The 61-consecutive games scoring a run was tied for the fourth longest in Minor League Baseball going into the night. Rome had an active streak of 71, the Minnesota Twins Single-A affiliate, the Fort Myers Mighty Mussels had their 66-game streak snapped last week, and Myrtle Beach had an active 66 game streak. It was the third time this season the Saints were shutout this season.
