Big Hit Evades Ports in 5-3 Loss

STOCKTON, Calif. – The Ports (23-20, 50-59) could not make the comeback in Tuesday’s series opener, losing 5-3 against Visalia.

The Rawhide (17-26, 45-64) scored in the first on a Yerald Nin RBI single to make it 1-0. Alex Barr would escape with two runners aboard, but not before reaching 37 pitches and ending his night.

Stockton answered in the bottom of the second on a line drive home run (9) from Bryan Andrade that glanced off the left field foul pole and tied the game 1-1.

Visalia gave an answer in the top of the third with an Enyervert Perez sacrifice fly that made it 2-1. Tytus Cissell singled home a run in the fourth, and two bases-loaded walks made it 5-1 later that same inning.

The Ports offense took their best shot in the fifth, an Edgar Montero RBI double ripped into the right field corner made it 5-2. Drew Burress grounded into a fielder’s choice with the bases loaded to score another, but a double play followed and ended Stockton’s chances still trailing 5-3.

Chung-Hsiang Huang picked up his first win of the season, pitching six innings allowing just three runs on six hits with one walk and four strikeouts. Stockton had one final chance in the ninth, but another double play ball stopped the offensive momentum, and the Rawhide won the series opener 5-3.

UP NEXT: The Ports play the Rawhide in the second game of the series. Wednesday’s game is scheduled for a 7:05 PM first pitch. RHP Daury Vasquez (0-4, 11.45) will take the mound for Visalia, and LHP Corey Braun (4-6, 5.43) gets the ball for Stockton.
