SAN JOSE, Calif. – The Ports (22-19, 49-58) could not keep up with San Jose’s offense and lost 10-4 in Saturday night’s contest, guaranteeing the Giants at least a series split headed into Sunday’s series finale.
The Churros (23-18, 60-47) jumped out to a 5-0 lead across the first three innings. A Jeremiah Jenkins RBI single in the first, Angel Guzman RBI double in the second, and Tanner Mally two-RBI triple in the third were the key swings in the early barrage.
Stockton had an answer in the fourth with a two-RBI double from Gavin Turley and an RBI single from Jose Ramos made it 5-3 in the fourth. However, Lorenzo Meola exploded on Saturday night with his most important contribution being a three-run home run in the bottom of the same inning to eliminate any hopes of keeping it close.
San Jose’s bullpen rode the momentum of the offense to keep the lead comfortable throughout the latter innings. A couple of Michael Brooks leadoff doubles were not good enough for any runs in the fifth and seventh, but Stockton did get one in the ninth on a Roman Martin RBI single for the final score of 10-4.
UP NEXT: The series finale takes place Sunday evening at Excite Ballpark with a scheduled 5:00 PM first pitch. San Jose is yet to name their starter and Josiah Romeo gets the start for the Ports.
